Sanying Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Lijiang region. The naming section is located in the Sanying coal mine (N26°17′00'; E100°53′00″), 16 km northeast of the seat of Eryuan County, Yunnan. The section is re-tested by Twelve Survey Team of Yunnan Bureau of Geology in 1963, and by First Regional Survey Team of Yunnan Bureau of Geology in 1984, respectively. Named by the First Regional Survey Team of Yunnan Bureau of Geology in 1959.
Synonyms: Three formations have been considered as synonymy of Sanying Formation, including Xinyang Fm, Yeka Fm, Fudong Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
Primarily light grayish green, grayish yellow and pinkish red half-consolidated siltstone and claystone with several lignite beds, 200-500 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Upper contact
It is covered by the Quaternary and unconformably underlain by different older strata in different regions.
Regional extent
It is found in several regions of western Yunnan, including Eryuan, Lanping, Simao, Lijiang, Weishan, Jinggu, and Nanjian.

Fossils
The formation yields the plants Acer, Quercus, Celtis and Pinus, and fossils of mammals, gastropods, ostracods.

The depositional environment is alluvial-fluvial-lacustrine-diluvium facies deposits.
